At Hetton Primary we consider reading is one of the most important life skills we can teach the children.  Yesterday, we took sometime to take part in some quiet reading time before we went litter picking.

We have had lots of fun so far this week.  The children have participated in the Our Space Project which has been organised by the Groundworks Team.  On Wednesday afternoon the children went on a litter pick to clean up the front of the school and on the opposite side of the road.

After this, it was time for the children to get sewing!  This session was all about practising the different types of stitches.

We have had lots of fun at Kirkleatham!

From handling artefacts, dressing up, smelling herbs, spinning wool to making Anglo - Saxon helmets - we have had a jam-packed day and all of the children have had a great time.

We even found an adventure playpark at lunchtime foe some extra fun.  Have a look through some of our pictures.

We even had a go at using a 'fire stick' and some flint to create sparks.  This would have been used in the past by children to start a fire every morning.  Lewis was fantastic at this.  Have a look!

In English, we are using the music video for the song Titanium (the children love singing) to create an amazing piece of writing.  If you follow the link below, you can watch the video with the children and talk about some of the inferences they have made this week.

This week the children have been learning about the circulatory system and how it helps to transport the nutrients we need around our body.   After reminding each other about the digestive system (which they found disgusting), they investigated how water can be absorbed in the body.

The children used jelly snakes and left them in water or salty water for 48 ours.  The results were amazing as the jelly snakes grew!  They were also some left over for everyone to enjoy.

Have a look at some of the photos below.

Our PE this term is all about working together as a team.  Before we start getting ready for our Sports Day, we have been playing rounders - we are very competitive!
