At Hetton Primary we regard homework as an important part of your child’s education.
Activities and tasks are carefully chosen and set with the following aims in mind;
To allow home and school to work in partnership to promote learning and give opportunities for regular communication.
To encourage children to find out about new topics, give extra practice at activities or extend work already carried out in school.
To develop children’s study skills and independence in learning in an enjoyable way
This year (2018-2019) we want each child to focus on: reading, rapid recall of times table facts and spellings.
We would like children to read each night and return their signed reading records each day so that books can be changed frequently and children's fluency and comprehension skills can be developed. Reading is a life skill and we want all children to leave Hetton Primary with the ability to read and enjoyed reading for pleasure. Year 6 children also have Reading Plus logins to access at home too.
All children have a 'times table rock stars' account which can be accessed at home in order to practice the recall of multiplication and division facts. Years 4, 5 and 6 have their times' table record book to develop their rapid recall even further.
Spellings are given out each week and all children have a dedicated spelling lesson each day. S
Parents also have an important role to play and we value your partnership and support.
When your child brings activities/tasks home please make sure:
Tasks are completed, offering help if needed and returned on the correct day.
Your child has a quiet place to work and the correct equipment is available for them to use.
You sign and comment as requested in diaries.
