Choir - Smashing it in the Community!

Hi

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the amazing choir that came along to our Christmas Party on the 20/12/23 it made everyone so happy and the feedback forms from the event show it was a big part of the day and everyone loved having them come along to sing. Was also nice to hear songs I have never heard before!! The young boy was amazing and sang his heart out think he is a little star in the making! Also a big thank you for the contributions to our food bank we passed them onto Hilary and Margaret and they were so grateful.

Hetton New Dawn

Music Mark School

At Hetton Primary, we recognise the importance of Music - engagement with music allows our children to compose, perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians. Children understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations. Children are also given the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and progress to the next level of musical excellence.

We follow the DfE's National Plan for Music Education which was published in June 2022 - this document sets out the vision for music education to 2030 adn builds on the model music curriculum (2021). We deliver high quality music lesson (supported by specialist tutors) to all children for at least one hour a week using Charanga. We also offer additional learning after school and musical experiences.

Throughout their time at school, our children will experience:

  • EYFS Music experiences led by a specialist teacher
  • Specialist singing tuition
  • Instrument lessons - percussion, glockenspiel and recorder
  • Live Music
  • Opportunities to perform to an audience
  • 1:1 instrument tuition (currently piano, with ukulele coming back soon)

We also experience Music across other curriculum areas - studying song lyrics in English, traditional songs in History and Music from other cultures and countries in RE and Geography!
