Summer Two Week Four

WEEK BEGINNING 22ND JUNE 2026

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot!

What a scorcher this week has been, and as temperatures soared around the country even some schools and nurseries had to close, but Diamond Class soldiered on…with a little help to stay cool!

In Literacy this week we focused on refining our writing from last week, and we also created and acted out our story map for The Night Pirates and wrote some messages to put in bottles, like Pirates used to do when they were stranded on desert islands!

We will be performing the story actions for you on 20th July at our end of year assembly, save the date!

We also continued to practise forming our capital letters, we continued phonics and Handwriting sessions as usual.

This week in Maths it was all about consolidation. We learned more about number bonds to 10, and we explored Pattern further, both on the board and practically. We are using some fantastic vocabulary at the moment and our daily welcome time sessions are key to supporting this, we work out how many children are in, how many are absent, we use ten frames, work out the days of the week and month, and subitise using flash cards…before we even make it off the carpet!

Of course we have had to find ways to cool off this week, including a pamper party outdoors to cool our feet, bubbles machines, more ice lollies and ice pops every day, and a HUGE water game after lunch to cool off…it did seem to help!

As always, we made plenty of time to learn through playing, which is our most important job.

Just over three weeks to go…😥

Maths: Patterns in Number Sense and remembering the composition of 10 - 3 parts.

Summer Two Week Three

WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 15th JUNE 2026

Pirates, Sports Day, and Minibeasts…a busy week!

Another busy week for Reception this week, and we have really enjoyed the different challenges this week has thrown our way!

In Literacy this week we have continued focusing our writing around the focus text ‘The Night Pirates’, and we have started to write words, captions and a sentence based on the story. We have also been reinforcing our learning about capital letters, full stops and finger spaces, ready for Year One.

In Maths this week we learned about different ways of comparing quantities to 10, and we also learned about positional language and mapping, we have had great fun placing small world objects and drawing our own maps, and during our number sense sessions we are doing a great job of using our mathematical vocabulary, talking to each other about what we see, how we see it, and if we disagree we are really explaining ourselves!

The star session of the week this week was of course, Sports Day! What an amazing time we all had, we so enjoyed lol of the activities, running, jumping, throwing, hurdling, kicking, relays…phew! Thankfully the weather stayed with us as well.

We continued to learn about all things piratey, digging for buried treasure, dressing up, role playing and building and rebuilding a pirate ship, and we started to learn more about the ocean, playing with our small world resources, making flags, making hats, telescopes, and playing with all of our new Night Pirates resources that Mrs Sutherland made for us.

Outside we have been starting to gather resources for our bug hotels, following our interests in minibeasts and all things crawly, and learning about Understanding the World. We made a mini hotel and practiced playing with toy bugs, and next week we are going to start building some hotels with some old pallets and pieces of wood and tubing. Hopefully we will have lots of creatures to visit. We also went on a summer nature treasure hunt, learning about the signs of Summer and looking closely at our natural world.

As always, we finished the week with a Friday dance party, to enhance our wellbeing ready for the weekend, and we had a lovely ice lolly to cool off!

Thank you for your continuing support as we head towards the end of the year!

Mrs Fearby, Mrs Sutherland and Mrs Wharton.

Maths: Making Maps, describing position, and comparing quantities to 10. Agreeing and disagreeing!

Sports Day!
