Spelling at Hetton Primary School

At Hetton Primary School we use RWI Spelling from Y2 to Y6.  This allows a seamless progression from RWI Phonics once the children in Year 2 have completed their phonics learning.  The scheme is structured into units of work for each year group with the units covering all the National Curriculum objectives for each year group.  Each unit follows the same lesson design so that the children become familiar with each of the parts of the unit as the unit progresses enabling successful and meaningful engagement and progress.

The teaching of spelling using the RWI approach supports the children in learning all the sounds needed to be successful spellers.
