Welcome to Ruby Class!
Tuesday 5th June
We had a fantastic time today at the seaside!
We played in the park, had a ride on a train, built sandcastles,went for a dip in the sea and even got ice creams! Yum!
Thursday 30th June
Today we started looking at aboriginal artwork. We did some learning about indigenous people and why they create the art that they do.
We then began to use some of the symbols to create our own piece of art and tell our own story.
Tuesday 21st June
Today in P.E we played a few games of rounders. We were practicing a range of skills including batting, throwing, fielding and running.
Tuesday 14th June
We're loving our plants topic in Science this half term. Today we had to repot our tomato plant as it had outgrown its old pot.
We took this opportunity to look at the different features of the plant. We spotted the stem, roots and leaves.
Thursday 9th June
Today we went on a plant hunt around the school and found a range of different plants. We discussed the names of each and whether they were garden or wild plants.
Friday 27th May
Today we celebrated the Queen's platinum jubilee. We came into school dressed in red, white and blue and took part in a variety of activities to celebrate the Queen's huge achievement.
Thursday 26th May
Today we took part in a dance workshop.
We loved learning some new skills, it was really good fun.
Friday 20th May
We did it! Ruby class are now all officially secret agents after completing our training this week.
The children have worked so hard and we all couldn't be prouder.
We've had a great afternoon celebrating with sweets and doughnuts.

Thursday 28th April
Today we started our learning linked with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We spent the lesson working in pairs to create a timeline of the Queen's life so far.
Tuesday 26th April
Today we took part in an Arctic live session. We got to meet a researcher who is living in a research station in the Arctic. He told us about the clothing and equipment needed when venturing outside of the station. We also had a tour of the research village.
Friday 8th April
Today we had a lovely afternoon learning about healthy snacks and making fruit kebabs. It was nice to try a range of different fruits.
We've had such a lovely spring term, we've worked so hard and all deserve a rested half term.

Wednesday 5th April
Today we consolidated our learning of the Easter story. We looked at all we have learnt and made links to how we celebrate and how Christians celebrate. We made Easter cards to give to our friends and family.
Thursday 31st March
Today we went on a Minibeast hunt outside. We searched for a range of Minibeasts and recorded what their microhabitat was. We collected all of our data in a tally chart and used this to create a block diagram.
Monday 28th March
In English we have been learning about The Great Fire of London. Today we took part in a virtual reality experience day where we imagined we were in 1666 when the fire started. We had to work together as a group to complete various tasks and help put the fire out. We can't wait to use the information we learnt in our writing tomorrow.
Wednesday 23rd March
Today in art we continued our learning about Henri Matisse. We created another piece of art work based on his snail collage work. This time we added spirals and focused on only using primary and secondary colours.
Tuesday 22nd March
Today in maths we continued our learning of 2-D shapes. We sorted a variety of them into different groups based on the amount of sides and vertices they each have.
Friday 18th March
Today we celebrated Sunflower Day to show our support for Ukraine.
We used our printing skills to create some sunflowers using paint, a cotton bud and a fork. Each year group made their own sunflowers and we show cased them in assembly this afternoon. These are now stuck in our classroom window for everyone to see as they walk past.
We also each planted our own sunflower, we're excited to take care of them and watch them grow.
Monday 14th March
Our topic for science week is plastic pollution.
We spent our lesson today looking at different kinds of plastic, discussing the types that are easy to recycle and the types that are harder. We then had a range of plastic items which we sorted into those groups. It was a lot of fun, we were surprised at the amount of items that we thought we could recycle that we actually can't.
We also looked further in the week at how we can help with plastic pollution and made pledges on the small things we're going to do.
Wednesday 9th March
Today in science we have been identifying if something is dead, alive or has never lived. We spent the afternoon searching around the school, both inside and outside, to see what items we could find. We then added each item to a table to show our findings.
Thursday 3rd March
Happy World Book Day!
We have loved celebrating this week by reading lots of our favourite stories, joining in live zooms with our favourite authors and dressing up as our favourite characters.
Monday 28th February
In art today we did some research on the artist Henri Matisse and created our own piece of art based on his cut out method.
Tuesday 15th February
In English we're learning how to write an instruction text. In today's lesson we made chocolate mug cakes. They were so quick to make and tasted yummy! In tomorrow's lesson we're going to write up the instructions for how to make them.
Monday 14th February
Happy Valentine's Day!
Today we learnt all about St Valentine and the reason behind why we celebrate it. We also wrote a poem and put it inside a card for a loved one.
Thursday 10th February
This week we have been celebrating Children's Mental Health Week. Today we took part in 'Dress to Express' day where we came dressed in clothes that made us feel happy.
Friday 4th February
Today we celebrated NSPCC Number Day!
We each came dressed to school in a number and took part in lots of maths activities.
Thursday 3rd February
Today we received our documents to confirm that we are the proud adopters of the marine turtles of Fiji. We're so excited to be able to support an amazing charity and we can't wait to learn more about turtles.
In our pack we received a teddy. We took a vote as a class and we have decided to name him Timmy the Turtle.

Wednesday 4th February
Today in English we followed a set of instructions to plant our own magical beanstalk. Let's hope no giants climb down them when they start to grow!
Tuesday 1st February
Today in science we made electrical circuits. We worked well in our teams to connect each component to make the bulb light up.
Thursday 27th January
This term in P.E we're learning some dance skills.
Today we pretended we were Astronauts and created a dance based on our journey to space. We worked great as a team to create a rocket out of different shapes. We also used a variety of movements to travel around space once our rocket landed.
Friday 21st January
Today to start our PSHCE lesson we played a team game of 'Pass the ball.' We had to work as a team to ensure everyone had a turn at passing the ball around the circle. We also had to make sure we were concentrating to ensure we didn't miss the ball being passed to us. This game really helped to build our teamwork skills which we used in our lesson later.

Thursday 15th December
"Santa Clause is coming to... Hetton Primary"
We loved having Santa visiting us today in school. It was so magical. We even got to sing one of our Christmas Carols with him and it's official, all of Ruby Class are on the nice list. Yey! To celebrate we put on our best clothes and had a Christmas party.
Wednesday 15th December
A special guest dropped in to see us this morning all the way from Santa's workshop! Our elf Elfie arrived with gifts from Papa Elf and a note from Santa. HE'S VISITING TOMORROW!!
We also had a great afternoon singing along with the Sunderland festive big sing. We spotted our favourite music teacher Laura and loved singing along to the carols with her and the festive band.
Tuesday 14th December
Christmas has come early in Ruby Class.
We've got a fun packed week full of lots of exciting and festive activities.
Today we sang our Christmas carols around the Christmas tree. It was lovely to get to perform to so many of our parents. We loved it and hope you did too.
Friday 10th December
Today was Christmas jumper day! We all came to school dressed in our festive clothing and took part in our annual Santa dash around the yard.
Thursday 2nd December
This afternoon we went to AAA sports to do some gymnastics and trampolining. We've had a fantastic time. Thank you to all the staff at AAA sports for having us.
Friday 27th November
This afternoon we decorated our classroom for Christmas. It was so much fun and it has got us all really excited for Santa coming! We also started to learn the Christmas songs for our carol service. Miss Routledge was so impressed with our singing voices.
Friday 19th November
This week is Anti-Bullying week. Throughout the week we have completed various activities around Anti-Bullying. To show our support we have also been wearing odd socks everyday. There's been some fantastic combinations of socks, lots of bright and colourful patterns, some of us in Ruby class have even been wearing Christmas socks!
Friday 19th November
Today we supported Children in Need by coming into school in non-uniform. Thank you to all who donated.
The children wanted to take a funny photo for the occasion.
Tuesday 16th November
Today in P.E we got out the apparatus. We completed a variety of movements focusing on keeping our head up and still, our tummy tight and back straight and focusing our attention to one fixed spot to help us with our balance.
Monday 1st November
Our new focus text in English is 'Little Red Reading Hood'
Over the holidays Miss Routledge set Ruby Class a challenge to send in a picture of them reading their favourite book in their favourite place. The children's images were fab and they all spoke about how much they enjoyed reading in their special place.
We had a challenge today in English to find some special reading spots around school that we could read in when we are here. The children were really creative and found some great reading spots, we had great fun.
Friday 22nd October
Happy half term & Happy Halloween!
We loved reading a story in the pumpkin patch today, thank you for inviting us along Diamond Class.
Monday 18th October
This year we have signed up to the Cauliflower Christmas Project. The project will print our children's artwork onto Christmas cards, mugs, wrapping paper and gift tags that parents can buy.
Today we designed our cards. Although it's only October we did have a lot of fun making snowmen cards while singing along to Christmas songs.
Tuesday 19th October
We have loved taking part in Walkwise activities for the last two weeks. We have learnt lots about the Green Cross Code and Road Safety.
For one of the activities we took part in a competition to see who could design the best Road Safety t-shirt. Congratulations to the following children for winning the competition.

Tuesday 12th October
Today we took part in a live book event with Seven Stories Museum. We got to listen to Ross Montgomery's new book 'Ten Delicious Teachers' and we had a drawing lesson with the illustrator Sarah Warburton.
It was really fun!
Friday 8th October
We had a great day in Ruby class today, taking part in some outdoor adventure activities over at Hetton school. All of the children were really brave with some children climbing all the way to the top of the wall!
Monday 4th October
We love singing our times table songs. Today we practiced our 2's with our friends Bridget the Lioness.
