Summer 2 overview
Week 7
History session investigating the decline of Mayan Cities.
We looked at information and theories which archaelogists and hitorians have put forward about why Mayan cities declines in population or were abandoned over time.
Here are some of our theories:
Places were less populated because lots of people died during wars. (Esmai and Cadie)
Mayans built reserviors so they were prepared for droughts so it wasn't droughts. (Amiya)
It could have been the quality of the air that made people leave the cities. If they cut all the trees down there would not be enough oxygen so I think it could have been deforestation also. (Cadie)
I think it was drought because if the river dries up where would the Mayans get water from? Where would they get fish from, bathe, drink water...? (Matthew)
I think it was battles because you don't want to stay in an area where there is a war. Think about what it must be like in Ukranine today. (Sophia)
