British Values

At Hetton Primary School, we actively promote the five fundamental British Values:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

This ensures that our young people understand the importance of respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

British Values  are embedded everyday and permeate through in lessons. It is taught discretely as part of our PSHCE curriculum but links are also referenced through other subjects. We also subscribe to Picture News, which has enabled us to discuss key questions affecting modern life in Britain as part of our weekly assembly. Ask us about this weeks big question!

During the Autumn Term, we have been focusing on 'democracy.' Following the British value of democracy, the children voted in our new Mini Senior Leadership Team - speeches, voting and then the ballot count!

In the second half of the term, it was time for our School Council to be established; this vote took place in class. Head over to our 'School Council' page to find out what they have been up too.
