Tree Planting
Today the children have planted their own tree in our school field. The children were excellent and showed resilience in the cold weather! The children have promised to look after their trees and help them grow.
14.11.25 - Children in Need
W.B 10.11.25
This week has been a very busy week. It was anti-bullying week this week and we kicked it off with odd sock day. As you can see, there were lots of brightly coloured odd socks! The theme for anti-bullying week was power for good. We talked about what this meant and came up with lots of ideas about what we can do for the better. We then helped to create a display by writing what our super power for good would be. There were some wonderful ideas such as my super power for good is being kind and helping others. This week was also so Remembrance Day. We made a poppy wreath that was taken to the remembrance service and lay at the cenotaph. We took part in a 2 minute silence and the children were very respectful.
W.B 3.11.25
What a super start to the half term. We have had Outdoor Classroom Day which was lots of fun! We have learnt about past progressive tense in English when introducing our new text. In Maths we are continuing to learn our times tables and have begun to focus on multiplication and division. We will be times table superheros in no time! In Science we have started our new topic about electricity. We had lots of fun investigating how to make a simple circuit. We also looked to see which appliances were mains power and which were battery operated. In History, we began looking at why the River Nile is important to Ancient Egyptians. We were able to use our knowledge from our Geography topic on rivers to help us.
W.B 20.10.24
Wow - what a half term we have had. The children have worked super hard and I’m very proud of them. We are continuing to practise our times tables. We’ve learnt to add and subtract 4 digit numbers in Maths. We’ve written some fantastic stories in English which included dialogue. Mrs Morris loved reading them all. We have loved our Geography topic on rivers and can’t wait to start our History to see how our learning links. In Science, we have participated in lots of practical activities to help us learn about the digestive system. Well done, Year 4.
W.B 13.10.25
This week the children have worked hard on using their inverted comma accurately. Next week we are going to write a narrative which includes dialogue. In maths, we’ve worked hard to add and subtract 4 digit numbers using column addition and subtraction. Gentoo asked us to make ‘You Matter’ postcards that they are going to put up in the community. Year 4 wrote lovely messages on their card.
River Workshop - 8.10.25
Today, Jack and Phillip from the River Wear Trust came into school to work with us. They consolidated lots of what we had already learnt. Mrs Morris was super impressed with our knowledge. In the morning, we looked at samples of river water and investigated what creatures were living in the river. We then built a model of the river wear using all the correct terminology. In the afternoon, we were able to go onto the school field and build our own rivers and investigate what happened to the sand and the water as it moved down the river. We’ve had a brilliant day!
6.10.25
In Science, we have been looking at the digestive system. The children carried out an investigation to demonstrate what happens during the digestive process. They used bowls which represented our mouths and placed a banana in the bowl. They then mashed the banana (our teeth) and added water which represented the saliva in our mouths. They then put the mashed banana into a sock (the oesophagus) and squeezed out into a bowl which acted as our stomach. The children added vinegar which represented the stomach acid. The children could talk about the whole process and knew which organs were needed to digest our food. Well done, Year 4.
6.10.25
In English we were looking at speech. We had lots of sentences that we had to sort into speech and not speech. We talked about speech being punctuated with inverted commas. When we were sorting our sentences, we looked for inverted commas.
W.B 29.9.25
This week we started our new book, Tar Beach. We discussed where the story is set and the main characters. We then became speech detectives and looked for direct speech in the text. In Maths, we have been rounding. We learnt a rhyme to help us when rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. It was tricky but we were resilient and cracked it in the end.
25.9.25
Today, Year 4 were lucky enough to meet an artist and create some art work that will be going in an exhibition. We used photographs of our area to make a drawing. We then added colour using water coloured pencils. Our drawings were amazing and very eye catching. Well done Year 4!
24.9.25
Today, in Science, we investigated the effect sugary drinks has on our teeth. We predicted that sugary drinks would rot our teeth. We used orange juice, water, coke, Diet Coke and blackcurrant. We used eggs which represented our teeth. From the investigation, we found orange juice, blackcurrant and coke to have the biggest impact on our teeth. They turned the eggs a different colour and made the shell crack. We couldn’t believe how much sugar was in a bottle of coke!
W.B 15.9.25
This week we have been looking at flexible partitioning. The children used concrete resources to explore different ways of partitioning 4 digit numbers. This worked really well and gave the children a better understanding when they came to apply their knowledge to their worksheet. In Geography, we have continued our work on rivers and learnt about the different features. In English, we have created our own characters to include in our own legend writing next week. We are continuing to enjoy going swimming on a Friday afternoon. We have impressed Mrs Morris this week with our times table knowledge.
W.B 8.9.25
What a brilliant start to Year 4! The children have quickly adjusted to new routines and remembered our school rules and values! In English, we have begun our new story - The Mermaid of Zennor. We are intrigued to read more and find out about the mysterious happenings in Zennor. In Maths, we,ve begun looking at numbers to 1000. I’m very impressed so far with their maths skills. We have enjoyed learning about teeth in Science. Some of us found it very funny looking at our own teeth and learning the function of the different teeth. In Geography, we have looked at the water cycle. Amongst all of our busy learning, we still found time to enjoy our reading corner. It has lots of exciting new books to read.
